The Power of One-on-One Tutoring
One of the most impactful ways our volunteers contribute is through our tutoring program. Take Sarah, for example. Sarah has been a volunteer tutor with us for over two years. She works one-on-one with refugee children, helping them build strong foundations in math and English. “Seeing the progress my students make is incredibly rewarding,” Sarah says. “It’s not just about the academic improvement; it’s about building their confidence and watching them thrive.”
Empowering Adults through Language Learning
Our adult language learning program wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of volunteers like John. John teaches English classes to refugee adults, helping them develop essential communication skills. “Many of my students come to class with a lot of hope and determination,” John shares. “It’s an honor to support them as they work towards achieving their personal and professional goals.”
Welcome Teams: Creating a Sense of Belonging
Volunteers also play a crucial role in our Welcome Teams. These teams mentor newly arrived refugee families, helping them navigate life in the U.S. and providing much-needed friendship and support. Rachel, a Welcome Team volunteer, recalls her experience working with a family from Syria. “We celebrated birthdays together, helped with school enrollments, and simply spent time getting to know each other. It was a transformative experience for both the family and me.”
